ei42 Newsletter Friday 24 July 2009

Over the weekend I went to a barbecue at a friend’s house, naturally this person is a member of Ei42 and has been for over a year. He’s just bought himself a very nice expensive new car and he was happily telling me how he got the best deal ever by using “Compare the Market.com”, nothing surprises me anymore so I simply asked him “what makes you think you got the best deal” his answer was that he had gone to compare the market and that they had shown him a list of deals and the difference between the most expensive and the cheapest was £160 and so he had jumped to the rather illogical conclusion that he had “saved” £160.


This is typical of what advertisers are trying to get us all to believe every time we see or hear an advertisement. The fact is there are lies, damn lies and statistics and this kind of conclusion jumping is proof that a mix of those together with a natural desire for a bargain means that we often jump to the wrong conclusion. My friend was wrong for a number of reasons. Firstly, he was not comparing like with like. If you went to Harrods and bought a Jar of Jam do you suppose it would be more expensive than Tesco own brand? Of course it would! So if Jam from Harrods cost £4.00 and jam from Tesco was 50p, have you saved £3.50? of course you haven’t, because you would not have bought Jam for £4.00 in the first place.


Do you suppose that Comparison sites are more interested in saving you money than making a profit?


How can so many comparison websites afford to spend Millions of pounds on TV advertising unless they are making HUGE profits?
How can they be making so much money?

The answer to this question is that they FOCUS on comparing products that will make them big commissions, Insurance, Mortgages, Loans, Credit Cards, Travel, Gas & Electricity, anything else is irrelevant to them. More importantly nothing is unique to these comparison websites. They ALL have the same products and services from the same people that you will find on Ei42 and so there is no way that you can get a better deal from a comparison website than you do from Ei42 when comparing like for like. Let me repeat that...

Here is why, let’s say you go to compare the market and find a great deal for your Car Insurance like my friend did with “Swinton Insurance” he used Compare The Market to order his policy from Swinton and Compare the Market kept ALL of the commission. If he had used his Ei42 shop to buy the same insurance then he would have got a rebate of £18.00 in effect making his insurance £18.00 cheaper than buying via Compare the Market.


All of this is not rocket science but it does require you all to look at the broader picture. As my old Granny used to say “if you look after the pennies the pounds will look after themselves” and all you have to do to make those pennies add up is to always use your Ei42 shop when you buy anything online.


How to Compare the Market and buy via your Ei42 shop
Let’s say you have just looked for the best deal on car insurance on one of the comparison websites and identified that Swinton have a great deal for you. Did you know that you can still buy that product or service via Ei42 and get a commission? Here’s how...


1. Identify the Product or service. In our example it is “Swinton Insurance”
2. Close your web browser completely. (not just the Tab) 
3. Restart your web browser and go to your Ei42 shop
4. Search for the retailer or supplier. In our example it’s “Swinton Insurance”
5. Buy the product or service
Simples.....

Please note that not all products and services generate a commission but you have nothing to lose by trying. If there is a commission due you will automatically receive it and NOT the comparison website that you might have used.

ei42 Planned Maintenance Information

Server Upgrade
Due to the huge growth in membership of Ei42 we are faced with the very real prospect that if we do not upgrade our server capacity soon then our service to you will not be able to meet the exceptionally high standards that we set ourselves. We host Ei42 on dedicated servers within the UK but in order to balance the load we are planning a full upgrade this Saturday 13th June. Not only is this an upgrade of server capacity it also involves a physical change of location and as a result there will be some down time which will be kept to a minimum.
The Bottom Line
Our team will start the upgrade this Saturday the 13th of June at 12:01am BST to ensure the minimum disruption to you all.

Congratulations – Is this You?
We always protect our members privacy so I cannot name any names but whilst reviewing the March statistics this week I noticed that there are many members who seem to have forgotten about Ei42, maybe they joined, did a little and forgot about it, maybe they are just busy with other things right now? Well, let me tell you that it’s time to wake up people!
There are dozens of examples like these 3, is one of them YOU? These people have not logged into their accounts since March so they are in for a shock when the payment run is processed this week.

Paid Advertising
For a long time now many members have been asking for clarification on how and where they can advertise the Ei42 opportunity. Our terms stated that no paid online advertising was allowed. After much soul searching and serious consideration I have decided to lift this restriction with immediate effect. Naturally there are some things that you should be made aware of before you rush out and spend your hard earned money on advertising. Some of these are from me personally, some are legal issues and some are just good to know.

  • Do not spend any money on advertising if you cannot afford to lose it. Advertising does not come with a money back guarantee.
  • Only advertise the Ei42 business opportunity not the shops on Ei42.
  • Before you start any campaign such as Google Ads make sure you read everything and understand how it works. Remember that reading and learning is free.
  • When advertising on the web at places such as Google, Yahoo, Microsoft you cannot and should not promote 3rd party brands. For example you would not be allowed to say...

“Get cashback at Tesco, Asda, PC World, Argos and earn money with Ei42”
The use of brand names in this way is not allowed and anyway it’s a really bad idea because you will simply find that people who are looking for those brands will just click your ads and waste all of your advertising budget by clicking your advert when all they really want is to visit Tesco.
Initially we are allowing bidding on our brand name ‘Ei42’ however you must not use the dispaly URL of Ei42.com, naturally we reserve the right to change this with the usual 30 days notice.
Henry Ford said a very wise thing about the money he spent on advertising, he said “I waste half of the money I spend on advertising – the trouble is I don’t know which half” this statement is as true today as it ever was, but with advertising on the likes of Google you can gain much more insight into what works and what doesn't than Mr Ford could ever have dreamed of.
Please Note: We are unable to offer any help and advice on how Google, Yahoo, Microsoft Ads or similar works. Every company involved has detailed explanations. As I mentioned above you simply need to be prepared to read and learn.

Having resisted the press babble about Twitter for almost 2 years we have been experimenting with how it might help us all with Ei42. I am aware that there are several Twitter groups but none of them are official. Next week I will announce our plans for the use of Twitter from Ei42 HQ.

April Payments Completed
Cheque, Bacs and Paypal processing is now complete and for those of you who reached the minimum payout of £20 in April you should have recived your payment. Whenever we process payments there are always a few members who we are unable to pay because we do not have a full UK postal address (including Postcode) on file. Please login to your admin areas and ensure that we have the correct details by clicking the ‘Account’ icon and updating your details if necessary so that we are able to pay you when a payment is due to you. Can I also remind you that we now offer payment direct to your bank account via BACS which is more secure, faster and FREE. If you choose payment by cheque we will deduct a payment processing fee of £1.00

At last I am pleased to report that Ei42 is now included on the DSA’s website as a 'prospective member'. In the case of the DSA ‘Prospective’ means that we have been elected to the DSA and are simply awaiting the compliance audit that precedes our transition to full membership. For those of you that use Ei42 as a business opportunity as well as a money saving tool I am sure you will see the huge benefits that this adds to Ei42 in terms of credibility. After the final audit when we move to Full DSA members we will be able to include the DSA and the governments OFT (Office of Fair Trading) logos on Ei42.

UK Growth Steps up a Gear

Membership in the UK more than doubled last week as compared to teh previous week and although it is clear that members are watching the purse strings and spending less than they were a year ago, there is no doubt that the safety in numbers rule is hard at work within Ei42. Put simply, even though the average spend per user per month is lower when we compare April 2008 with April 2009 due to the size and strength of our membership the month on month spend continues to rise.
Ei42 in the USA
For those of you who are actively promoting to friends in the USA, I wanted to let you know that I do not intend to provide regular weekly updates on the growth of USA within this newsletter which is aimed at UK members. You will all see your own statistics in your admin areas and can monitor your own performance as you see fit. Suffice to say that although USA got of to a subdued start we can see the wheels now beginning to turn and the numbers are increasing steadily. At the moment (as was the case with the UK in the early days weeks and months) the actual customer spend is very low. This is no big surprise given the state of the USA economy at the moment. However, as Ei42 USA continues to grow its membership even if you do not see financial reward at the moment there is no doubt that as our respective economies improve and as we approach Christmas the numbers that are building now will convert to financial rewards for everyone involved. Always remember that Ei42 is not a get rich quick scheme. Real businesses never are.
